Air Conditioner Dilemma

My boyfriend and I just moved out together for the first time! We’re obviously so excited about this, especially being the first of our friends to have even moved out of home! We’re going to have our friends over every weekend, as the designated party house for any event we can think of. It would be an understatement to say that our friends are excited. This weekend we’re hosting our first party… our housewarming! It’s going to be epic.

Our only problem is that we don’t have an air conditioning system. Canberra this time of year is pretty hot, and so we’re trying to figure out how to get around the fact that all our guests are going to be overheating if they’re partying in our small-ish home. We don’t know if we should bite the bullet and pay for someone to install an air conditioning system, or if we can get away with putting a couple of portable fans in the room. Obviously installing the air conditioning would be better for us in the long run, but we just bought this house so we’re really strapped on cash.

I’ve spoken to my friends and explained the situation. Of course they said they don’t care if they’re too hot, they just want to celebrate with us and our friends. But I’m still not sure. Seeing as we’ve moved out, I feel like we should start making adult decisions, and that means making investments so that we spend less money later. If we buy portable fans now, we’re going to end up buying an air conditioner later, which means we’ve paid double the money. I think it’s best that we get a second-hand air conditioner installed and have a technician do any necessary air conditioning repairs. Around Canberra, that must surely be a thing.

It’s a great place to live, and I’m really excited about the future my boyfriend and I have here. But what I’m even more excited about is our party this weekend. Woohoo!
